Faculty of Computer Science, Białystok Technical University, Bialystok, Poland, Assistant Professor. Parallel implementation of evolutionary algorithms for data mining problems such as classfication, clustering and multidimesional scaling. The work is supported by Clusterix Project.

Coordinator of the Clusterix Project at Białystok Technical University and leader of workpackage WP15 (development of new parallel applications) of the project.

10/96 - 7/04
Faculty of Computer Science, Białystok Technical University, Bialystok, Poland
Teaching and Research Assistant: Developed and implemented (Windows NT, Visual C++, MFC) evolutionary algorithms for extraction of decision rules from datasets.  Developed a parallel version of the system (using MPI), which was implemented on a cluster of Linux machines. The work was supported by  grants from Polish State Committee for Scientific Research and Technical University of Bia³ystok. The project co-ordinator was Professor Leon Bobrowski .

9/99-02/00 University of Karlsruhe , Germany and Daimler Chrysler Research and Technology , Machine Learning Department, Ulm, Germany
Guest Researcher: Developed and evaluated a computationally efficient evolutionary algorithm for induction of decision rules using multivariate discretization. The research stay was suported by Deutscher Akademischer Austuaschdienst (DAAD) .

7/96 - 9/96 Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica (CWI) , Amsterdam, Holland.
Guest Researcher: Worked on implementation of Genetic Algorithms in Manifold distributed programming environment.

Research Interests
Solution of important data minging problems such as classfication, clustering and data visualization using global optimization (e.g evolutionary) algorithms. Development of the efficient parallel formulations of these algorithms.

The focus of my research interests is in application of global search methods, especially evolutionary algorithms to the important problems in data mining and machine learning . Existing techniques usually use simple heuristics e.g. decision tree learning algorithms employ greedy 'divide and conquer' approach. I am trying to develop methods, which will increase the quality of obtained solutions while maintaining reasonable computational complexity. The main problem I investigate is the induction of decision rules. Since evolutionary algorithms have very high computational complexity I am  developing  parallel formulations of these algorithms.
